VISION, UNIVERSE, PHILOSOPHY
Creating, catalyzing, supporting… Atelier Tortil brings to life the most prestigious interior design projects through the bespoke creation of exceptional furniture, rugs, and lighting.
A Vision
After more than thirty-five years in the decorative arts as an interior architect, designer, and artistic director for prestigious houses, Jean-Pierre Tortil founded Atelier Tortil in Paris in 2019. The studio serves as both a designer-manufacturer of custom creations and a publisher of pieces by contemporary artists and designers.
«It is the culmination of a desire and a passion: to position Atelier Tortil in the lineage of 20th-century decorative artists and ensemble creators such as Dupré-Lafont, Jean-Michel Frank, Jean Royère, and Marc Du Plantier,» explains Jean-Pierre Tortil. «This merging of craftsmanship and mastery of various manufacturing techniques in textiles and furniture allows us to bring the most ambitious projects to life.»
A Place of Creation
Alongside its collections, which reflect the stylistic vision of Jean-Pierre Tortil, as well
as collaborations with guest artists and inspiration books offered to international decorators and interior architects, the Parisian house also provides a unique service of bespoke creations. Here, attentiveness to clients and adherence to project specifications go hand in hand with mastery of craftsmanship.
Atelier Tortil builds the uniqueness of its offer around a design studio that includes a team of creatives and experts, as well as a selection of workshops worldwide, highly skilled in their respective specialties.

A Place of Sharing
Atelier Tortil is a platform for collaboration, where form is enriched by substance, in line with the grand tradition of applied arts.
The essence of Atelier Tortil lies in constant dialogue between creativity, quality, and relevance. The design teams work closely with clients and passionate artisans to showcase traditional skills while incorporating contemporary innovations. Every creation is the result of a thoughtful process aimed at producing pieces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable and functional.
An Artisanal Philosophy
Atelier Tortil champions an artisanal approach, where manual craftsmanship is at the heart of every creation, sometimes in conversation with technological innovation. The atelier places great value on artisan skills, with a focus on preserving traditional manufacturing techniques while adapting them to contemporary needs. This fusion of tradition and innovation allows for the creation of pieces that are timeless, modern, and unique.
An Ethical Commitment
Atelier Tortil is also committed to ethical practices, promoting responsible production methods and supporting local initiatives. By choosing Atelier Tortil, clients contribute to a more conscious economy, where each purchase supports artisans and promotes a sustainable lifestyle.
JEAN-PIERRE TORTIL
With 30 years of experience, Jean-Pierre Tortil has gained expertise in high-end craftsmanship and decorative arts. He began his career in galleries specializing in 20th- century decorative arts before honing his skills as an editor under the guidance of interior architect Michel Boyer.
In 1992, he joined Andrée Putman as the general manager of Ecart International and Andrée Putman Licenses, where he developed the brands and collections globally. After
this experience, he founded his own interior design studio, focusing primarily on high-end residential projects. Additionally, he developed furniture for brands such as Christophe Delcourt, Tai Ping, and Firma Casa in São Paulo, where he established his home.
Brazil became a significant chapter in his life during this time. While continuing his interest in Brazilian 20th-century architecture and decorative arts, he ventured into the performing arts as a set designer for theater, dance, and opera, working alongside prominent Brazilian artists.
After a decade of rich creative experiences, he returned to Europe in 2011 to revive the Cogolin carpet manufacturing company. In 2014, he was appointed Global Artistic Director of House of Tai Ping, which encompasses the renowned brands Cogolin, Edward Fields, and Tai Ping.
The culmination of these diverse and enriching experiences led him to establish Atelier Tortil in 2019. This high-end lifestyle brand brings together a team of talented designers and artisans, offering bespoke creation services for an international professional clientele.
